To our valued customers,
During these difficult times, while sheltering in place, we are aware that many of you are working and
attending classes online.
As a result, we have seen Internet traffic rise to unprecedented levels and not just during peak traffic times
but throughout the entire day and night.
The following will explain how our system works. Americable has long term contracts with a vendor to
purchase circuits with enough capacity to provide our customers with Internet service even during peak
times. In addition, we purchase backup circuit protection known as “Burstable” circuit capacity. The
vendor charges us for the time and amount of data usage that exceeds our fixed circuit size. This portion
is also a fixed amount and cannot be exceeded.
This crisis is unlike any we have ever experienced or could have imagined. Under normal conditions a
request to the vendor to increase our circuits would take between three and six months. During these
uncertain times, that timeline is overly optimistic.
The purpose of the Data Over-Usage fees is to prevent and deter the 10% of our subscribers who are online
downloading massive amounts of data.
As the Base Commander has implored everyone to “…only buy what you need…”, Americable is asking you
to follow this advice in your Internet usage. This is a finite resource. Please limit your screen time and log
into your “my account” page at www.americable.net
to check your usage on a regular basis and try to stay
within your limit.
For the months of April and May, Americable is lowering the overage fees from $12.50 to $6.25 per 50
Gigabytes of additional data over the limit for your internet plan. Hopefully by then we will be back to
Thank you for being a valued Americable customer.
