What does the "Stand by" button do?
Posted by - NA - on 15 March 2007 07:26 PM
The "Stand by" LED illuminates when the "Stand by" mode is engaged on the SB5100 SURFboard cable modem.

The "Stand by" button disconnects communications between the cable modem and the computer connect to it, while the modem remains active on the cable operator's RF network.

This provides a manual means of security for the user by "disconnecting" them from the Internet when they are not using it.
