Because our system is an "always on"system if your computer is turned on and connected to the modem it is vulnerable to attacks and viruses. Pressing the "standby" button on the top of the modem will disconnect the computer from the modem, but will allow the modem to stay connected to the system.

When you are connected we recommend the following to help keep your computer safe :

1) Keep your operating system (Windows) up to date. Ensure you get the latest critical updates or high priority updates from Microsoft or other software venders.

2) Run anti-virus software and keep its virus definitions updated weekly at a minimum. Anti-virus software is no good unless kept up-to-date.

3) Run personal firewall. Windows has a small firewall that only protects you from things coming from outside. Third party software such as Zone Alarm or Norton protects you from both incoming and outgoing traffic.

4) Use spy ware detection/removal software regularly software such as Ad-aware or Spybot Search & destroy.
